Prevalence of Acute Viral Hepatitis in Symptomatic Patients in a Tertiary Care Hospital of North India

Background: Acute Viral Hepatitis (AVH) is a major health problem worldwide, with higher incidence in developing countries, like India. The most common cause of viral hepatitis specific group hepatic viruses A, B, C and E (HAV, HBV, HCV HEV). Their clinical manifestations range from asymptomatic to acute fulminant or chronic hepatitis. Exploring the etiological spectrum clinic-epidemiological profile AVH becomes essential for formulating preventive measures control disease. aim present study was determine prevalence A virus (HAV), B (HBV), (HCV) (HEV) as causes tertiary care hospital North India.
 Materials Methods: retrospective conducted on 122 patients signs symptoms during May 2021 April 2022. Serum separated tested IgM anti-HAV antibodies, anti-HEV surface antigen (HbsAg) anti-HCV antibodies by Enzyme Linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA).
 Results: Out patients, HAV (41.80%) identified followed HEV (36.88%), HBV (17.21%) (13.11%). Co-infections more than one were 28 cases; HAV-HEV co-infection being common. Amongst positive cases, seropositivity males (60.65%) females (39.34%). symptom Icterus (64.87%), fever (52.51%), pain abdomen (50.91%), anorexia (46.22%), vomiting (26.24%), malaise (21.24%) diarrhea (12.23%).
 Conclusion: In our we have found that HEV, icterus fever, abdomen, anorexia, vomiting, diarrhea. Regular diagnosis monitoring cases will help patient management thus reduce morbidity mortality.
